EPISODE 62: Wrapping Up 2025- Bye 2025! We're Wrapping You Up!

2025 — It’s a Wrap! How PTSP Grew, Evolved, and Elevated Athlete Care in San Pedro

By Dr. Janae Brown, PT, DPT — Physical Therapy San Pedro

As 2025 comes to a close, I find myself asking the same question you probably are: How did this year fly by so fast?

When I sat down to reflect on the year at Physical Therapy San Pedro (PTSP), one word summed it up perfectly: EVENTFUL. In the best and most challenging ways.

This was a year of major growth, change, community connection, and leveling up our athlete care. So here’s an inside look at what shaped PTSP in 2025 — and where we’re headed in 2026.

This blog is especially for our athletes, dancers, patients, and San Pedro community members who continue to trust us with your recovery and performance journey.

Our Biggest Move Yet: PTSP Relocates to Downtown San Pedro

The year started with a shock — a forced relocation from our old building. At the time, it felt stressful and uncertain, but looking back, it was one of the best things that could’ve happened for our clinic.

Our new Downtown San Pedro physical therapy clinic now gives us:

✔️ Increased visibility & foot traffic

✔️ Easier access for athletes, dancers & families

✔️ Stronger connections with local events & businesses

✔️ A fresh, modern environment for rehab & performance

Yes, we lost 2,000 sq ft and a couple of private offices — but we gained energy, exposure, and a stronger connection with our community.

Bringing Port Town Fitness into the new space also opened doors for elevated strength & conditioning, performance training, and collaborative care. It’s been a game-changer.

Grand Opening, Team Reset, and Rebuilding Our Culture

Our Grand Opening with the Chamber of Commerce wasn’t just a ribbon-cutting — it was a symbolic clean start.

After a challenging 2024, we needed to rebuild our team structure and refine the way PTSP operated internally. We learned a lot about:

  • Hiring smarter

  • Understanding our clinicians’ strengths

  • Improving communication

  • Rebuilding culture and consistency

As we approach 2026, our goal is simple: Create the strongest, most aligned physical therapy team in San Pedro.

Lift Clinics: Our First Attempt at Strength Education

This year we hosted our first PTSP Lift Clinics — covering squat, deadlift, bench press, and overhead press technique.

They were a meaningful step into 1-on-1 and small-group athlete education, even if attendance wasn’t where we hoped. Still, they taught us valuable lessons about:

  • Scheduling around athlete seasons

  • Community interest

  • Marketing strategies

  • Preferred training formats

Lift Clinics will return in 2026 with improved structure, better timing, and new training options.

If you have clinic ideas — send them our way!

Serving the San Pedro Sports Community: A Year of Athlete Support

Our community partnerships grew massively this year across sports, dance, strength, and recreation.

Highlights:

  • FC Premier WPSL sideline coverage

  • San Pedro City Ballet (Coppélia + Nutcracker support)

  • Dance intensives with SPCB, KDL, and The Dance Factory

  • Strongman events & Martins Licis at the Santa Monica Classic

  • VALD Balance Testing at VIVE Yoga Day

  • PV Trails 5K partnership

If there was movement happening in San Pedro this year — PTSP was there.

Athlete care isn’t just what we do in the clinic. It’s what we do out in the community, supporting athletes in real time, where injuries actually happen.

Prioritizing Mental Toughness & Athlete Mindset

One of the biggest additions to PTSP this year was our collaboration with Dr. Jason Von Stietz, sports psychologist.

He brought so much depth to the conversation around:

  • Athlete anxiety

  • Performance confidence

  • Return-to-sport fears

  • Resilience through injury

He also led a Mental Toughness workshop for our staff — reshaping how we approach athlete communication and emotional recovery.

At PTSP, we don’t just treat the injury. We treat the athlete.

Leveling Up With New Technology & Clinical Training

This was one of our strongest years for continuing education and objective testing upgrades.

VALD Technology: Force Plates + Dynamometer

“What the Tech?” with Stanford’s Vien Vu kicked off our deeper integration of data-driven rehab. VALD has transformed our:

  • Strength testing

  • Return-to-sport benchmarks

  • Asymmetry tracking

  • Performance programming

San Pedro athletes now have access to the same testing tools used by professional sports organizations.

Emergency Medical Responder Course

Months in the making — but worth every minute.Skills gained included:

  • Splinting

  • Taping

  • Emergency response

  • Spine boarding

  • BLS renewal

This training enhances the safety and preparedness of every PTSP clinician during events and on the sidelines.

Hosting CFSC Levels 1 & 2

We officially became a hub for high-quality strength & conditioning certifications — increasing education access for local coaches and clinicians.

Clinical Mentorship: Growing the Next Generation of PTs

One of the highlights of 2025 was mentoring LLU DPT student Roger.Helping shape young clinicians is one of my favorite ways to pour back into the profession.

Building Community Through Events & Local Involvement

We deepened our San Pedro roots through:

  • First Thursday Art Walk booths

  • PBID Ambassador work

  • Supporting local businesses

  • Attending downtown events

PTSP will always be a community-first clinic — not just a physical therapy office.

Celebrating Physical Therapy Month

This year’s PT Month included:

  • Tote bag giveaways

  • Patient of the Week features

  • The PTSP Annual Challenge (yes…DB failed it miserably 😂)

It was a fun and meaningful way to spotlight progress, consistency, and the joy of movement.

PTSP Podcast: Our Best Year Yet

The PTSP Podcast saw incredible growth this year.Featured guests included:

  • San Pedro City Ballet

  • Dance Factory

  • Lawrence Alcera

  • Dr. Jason Von Stietz

  • Martins Licis

We covered:

  • Injury prevention

  • Strength & conditioning myths

  • Dance injuries

  • Speed & agility

  • Thoracic injuries

  • Common PT questions

  • Holiday training

The podcast continues to be one of our top tools for injury education and local outreach.

Online Programs: Ankle & Knee Pain Programs Launch

This year, PTSP officially launched:

  • The Ankle Pain Program

  • The Knee Pain Program

Organic reach was a challenge across social platforms, but the programs themselves produced strong results.2026 will bring more visibility, refined content, and additional program categories.

What’s Coming in December

We’re ending the year strong with:

  • San Pedro City Ballet Nutcracker coverage

  • PTSP Holiday Party

  • PTSP Employee of the Year announcement

Always a fun, busy, community-filled month.
