2024 Tried to Take Me Down
Seriously. This has been the most challenging year since I started my business back in January of 2017. It felt like one thing after another: employee drama, restructuring our business model, payment issues, taking over the lease for our center, and separating from the gym we originally opened with. And guess what? 2024 still isn’t done with me. 😩
Stay tuned for 2025.
One thing is for sure: I am strong. Not just physically strong but mentally tough, too. Anyone out there feel me? I’ve learned that I can endure just about anything. God made me resilient, and because of that, nothing has been able to sway me off my course.
Even though 2024 was full of challenges, so many good things also came to fruition. Over the last few months, our team has started to truly gel, and I’ve found myself enjoying our time together more than ever.
In this blog, I’m taking you on a journey through 2024—the highs, the lows, and everything in between.
Come along for the ride and see what it’s like to be part of a Sports Physical Therapy Team!
January: New Year, New Challenges
2024 started a little slower than usual for us. Unforeseen staffing changes had me focused on hiring new team members throughout January.
February: Fresh Faces and Vision Boards
In February, I attended the annual American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Conference in Boston, MA. While I was away, Dr. Bay held down the fort. These conferences always recharge my vision for the clinic, and I returned with new tools for the team—like a Theracane and Blazepod gadgets. At least they got something!
This month also marked the arrival of Evangelina Torres (Eva), our Lead Front Desk Receptionist. From day one, she dove into training and made an immediate impact. She joined us just in time for our annual Vision Board Meeting. Each year, we set goals, choose guiding words, and map out the tone for the year ahead.
March: Supporting Strong Athletes and Local Artists
While I didn’t attend the Arnold Strongman competition this year, I cheered hard from home as my client, Hannah Linzay, crushed it and placed 4th.
We also attended the San Pedro City Ballet Gala, always a fun event filled with community spirit, delicious food, and a good cause.
This month, I focused on recording our first Online Ankle Pain Program, with hopes of launching it by summer. Long weekends in the clinic paid off!
Spring: Growth and Glam
In April, we celebrated Lindsey heading off to PT school at Chapman. May brought our first team photoshoot, a day to glam up and showcase our unique skills.
June was a milestone month as we launched our Online Ankle Pain Program—a resource for people to safely manage ankle pain at home. It was a major accomplishment for me and a stepping stone toward future programs (stay tuned for our Knee Pain Program!).
This summer, our PTs rotated to support Invictus Feminae, the WPSL team we sponsor, during their season. We also welcomed Tori to our team. Her bright energy and expertise have been a huge asset, especially in assisting Dr. Bay with our Dance Program.
Summer: New Faces and Big Changes
In July, Dr. Silverton Nguyen joined us. Coming from running his own clinic, Dr. S has been an incredible addition—bringing mentorship, expertise, and patient care excellence.
We also welcomed Coach Alonzo "Zo" Davis, our first Strength & Conditioning Coach. This was a game-changer for PTSP, allowing us to bridge physical therapy and athletic performance training. Coach Zo’s expertise has already made a huge impact on our athletes and our team. (Although my wallet feels the impact too—hello, Force Plates!)
Fall: Community and Connection
In September, we began training the Mary Star Girls Volleyball team, teaching them strength and conditioning. This was a first for us, and while not perfect, it was fun and a great way to connect with the community.
I also attended the California Physical Therapy Association Conference in San Francisco, where I learned new strategies and made valuable connections.
October was Physical Therapy Month, and we went all out—viral mobility challenges, Patient Appreciation Week, and our Halloween PTSP SWAT Team costumes!
Winter: Finishing Strong
In November, we hosted our first Community Appreciation Night and participated in a Flag Football Agility Camp led by Coach Zo. I also published my first article in San Pedro Today titled "Why Athletes Need to Strength Train."
We’ve continued growing, learning, and building momentum, and we’re already gearing up for 2025.
Thank You for an Incredible Year
To our patients, clients, followers, and supporters—thank you. Your encouragement keeps us motivated to improve and innovate.
Here’s to 2025. Great things are on the horizon, and we can’t wait to share them with you.
With love,
Dr. Brown
